What are the Healing Properties of Oranges?

I love oranges. Okay, maybe "love" is too strong a word but I really appreciate them and endeavour to have one almost every day. They're sweet, yet tart, and for me, they're a real mess to eat, with juice running everywhere - which is a a great practice for me with letting go! So, besides the delightful sensory experience of eating oranges, how are they beneficial for your health? In Chinese Medicine, they have a cooling thermal nature and a sweet and sour flavour. It may be beneficial for:

  • weak digestion

  • poor appetite

  • regenerating body fluids

  • cool and moisten people who have become dry and overheated from disease processes, physical activity or hot weather

  • inflammatory, highly acidic diseases such as arthritis

  • assisting in lowering a high fever

  • weak gums and teeth

I see now why they were such an appropriate fruit to have at the end of sporting matches on a hot summer's day!If you are having issues with any of the above and would like some assistance with it, please feel free to get in touch with us for some acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine treatment.Pitchford, P.
